The History Of The Nordmann Fir

We love all Christmas Trees but definitely our favourite and the one most overwhelmingly popular is the Nordmann Fir.

What is the earliest history of the Nordmann Fir?

In 1838 the Finnish zoologist and botanist Alexander von Nordmann (1803-1866), who had a teaching position in Odessa (Ukraine), discovered a fir in the Caucasus. The tree was later named Nordmann fir in his honor.

The Caucasus is a 1,100 km long mountain range northeast to east of the Black Sea and extends over Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey.

A few years later the first Nordmann fir trees were introduced to Western Europe.
